Hibiscus House Celebrates 10 Years of Winter Sunshine

It is amazing to think that this coming season 2016/2017 Hibiscus House will be celebrating it's 10th birthday.

We will be open from 01-Nov-2016
after much hard work and cleaning from yet another rainy season.

Equally amazing, is to show you this photo, some of our team have been with us for ten years, some even longer as we started to build Hibiscus House in 2002.

For those of you who have visited you may recognise Saidou on the far left, Seedy in the center, Forday just in front of Seedy and Aliage at the back with sunglasses; Seedy has been with us the longest but all the mentioned were active in the building of Hibiscus House

Staff of 2015/2016 and this coming season

We will be welcoming our first guests for this season on Thur-03-Nov, a couple who have made Hibiscus House their winter sunshine escape for many years.
Our regular guests continue to regard Hibiscus House as their 'Home in The Gambia' and we are always welcoming new guests each season
We wish everyone a very happy holiday!

5 of 5 stars
Thank you to everyone at Hibiscus House for a wonderful holiday. We have just returned after spending one week of pure relaxation, we really did feel pampered. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they all went the extra mile to make our stay so very enjoyable. We are a family of 8 and stayed in both the private suites, and also two of the Garden rooms, all the rooms were great and the beds very comfortable. We loved the local beach, and enjoyed a day fishing on the river, all arranged by the hotel. The chef even cooked the fish we caught for us on the evening.

Unfortunately because of the Ebola outbreak tourism in The Gambia has been badly effected and we had the hotel to ourselves, which was great for us, but not for the people of Gambia and those running businesses. Please don't be put off visiting this country, Gambia is Ebola free, and the most friendly place you could visit.

Hello to our new 2014/2015 season

A new season for Hibiscus House

Hibiscus House is ready for the new season, our first guests for this 2014/2015 season will be arriving on Saturday and as always they will be greeted with a very warm welcome

Relax by the pool at Hibiscus House

After the rainy season everything here is green and growing in a most spectacular way, the sea is warm and the beaches are just waiting for you. Take a pirogue in the bolons of the River Gambia and you can spend a relaxing day, maybe catch a fish or two, watch as ladies in dug out canoes harvest local oysters

Peace and calm on the waters of The River Gambia

Opportunities for seeing bird life in The Gambia can be quite amazing, just a short distance away from Hibiscus House are Brufut Woods, on a short walk we were able to see several Long Tailed Nightjars and two magnificent Verreaux’s Eagle Owls who grow between 58-65 cms in height. Or you can just relax by the pool and let the abundance of bird life in the garden of Hibiscus House come to you as one of our guests last season did as shown in the photographs below of a Common Bulbul and Beautiful Sunbird

From sunshine in May to rain in July

“Cosy perfect hide-out”

Trip Advisor Review

5 of 5 starsReviewed 10 June 2014
Stayed May 2014, traveled with friends

We had a great time. If you prefer a family run place instead of a expensive 5 star hotel. Go for Hibiscus house. Swimming pool, jacuzzi, air con, lovely bar, nice staff, brilliant food and 10 beautiful rooms to relax. The beach is in walking distance.

It is always wonderful to hear that our guests have enjoyed their stay.
You can enjoy a variety of outings from bird-watching to fishing in the bolons, walking in the woods or just relaxing wheresoever you choose.

Now in July we are at the beginning of the rainy season, dark clouds loom above and thunder rumbles, luckily most of the storms are pretty swift to move on.

The photo is of gathering rain clouds on the beach at Batakunku

It may be raining here but YOU can still look forward to some warm winter sunshine
